Information Requirements Before Signing a Contract

The Directive stipulates that before any package travel contract or any related offer becomes binding on the traveler, the organizer or retailer must provide the traveler with the following information:

  1. Main characteristics of the travel services:
  • The destination(s), route, and duration of stay, including dates, and if accommodation is included, the number of nights included;
  • Means of transport, their description and categories, departure and return locations, dates and times, stopover and transfer times and locations. If the exact times are not yet determined, the organizer, and where applicable, the retailer, must inform the traveler of the approximate departure and return times;
  • Accommodation location, key features, and, where applicable, the tourism category of the accommodation according to the destination country’s regulations;
  • Meal plan schedule;
  • Visits, excursions, or other services included in the total price of the agreed package;
  • If unclear from the context, information about whether any of the travel services will be provided in a group setting, and if so, if possible, information about the approximate group size;
  • If the traveler’s benefit from other tourism services depends on effective oral communication – the language in which the services will be provided;
  • Information about whether the trip or holidays are suitable for persons with limited mobility, and upon request, precise information regarding the trip’s or holiday’s suitability considering the traveler’s needs.
  1. The organizer’s and, where applicable, the retailer’s trade name and geographical address, as well as their telephone number and, where applicable, email address;
  2. The total price of the package, including taxes and, where applicable, all additional fees, payments, and other costs, or, if these costs cannot reasonably be calculated before the contract is concluded, an indication of the types of additional costs the traveler may still have to cover;
  3. Payment terms, including any amount or percentage of the price to be paid as a deposit, and the schedule for payment of the remaining balance or any financial guarantees the traveler must pay or provide;
  4. The minimum number of people required for the package to be implemented and the deadline before the package starts by which the contract can be canceled if this number is not reached;
  5. General information about the passport and visa requirements of the destination country, including an approximate timeline for obtaining a visa, and information about medical formalities in the destination country;
  6. Information that the traveler, according to Article 12(1), can terminate the contract at any time before the package starts, by paying the appropriate termination fee or, where applicable, the organizer’s standard termination fees;
  7. Information about optional or mandatory insurance to cover the costs of contract termination if the traveler cancels, or assistance costs, including repatriation, in the case of accidents, illness, or death.
