Linked travel arrangements

The Directive introduces a new type of service – linked travel services.

A linked travel service is at least two different types of travel services purchased for the same trip, which are not components of a package and for which separate contracts are made with separate service providers, if the trader:

  • Enables the traveler to separately choose and pay for each of the travel services during one visit to a travel service provider or in one communication session;
  • Actively encourages the purchase of at least one additional travel service from another service provider, where the contract with the said provider is concluded no later than 24 hours after the first travel service booking confirmation.

Unlike the “Click-through” service, which is similar to a linked travel service, a linked travel service does not constitute a package travel service, so the traveler cannot rely on the same rights as when purchasing a package travel service. Therefore, it is important to distinguish whether the service constitutes a package or not.

Important!

In the case of a linked travel service, separate contracts are made with separate service providers, and the traveler cannot use any rights applicable to package travel services – each individual service provider will be fully responsible for the proper execution of their respective service.

Meanwhile, the service provider who promotes the purchase of multiple travel services is responsible for providing information.
