Security Deposit
At the time of vehicle pickup, consumers may be required to pay a security deposit, or the deposit amount may be held on their payment card (a specific sum is “blocked” and released at the end of the rental period). If any issues are found after the car is returned, the rental company may deduct funds from the security deposit. Possible deductions include:
- Fuel costs – if the car is returned with an empty fuel tank, contrary to the agreed fuel policy.
- Vehicle damage – any damage not covered by the selected insurance.
- Traffic violations – fines or penalties incurred during the rental period.
The security deposit is refunded to the consumer as soon as possible after the rental period ends, provided no issues are found.
