Denied Boarding

Denied boarding occurs when passengers are refused entry onto a flight, despite having a confirmed reservation and arriving on time for boarding.

If more tickets have been sold than there are seats available on the plane, the airline may ask for volunteers who are willing to give up their seats. Passengers who voluntarily give up their seats are entitled to:

  • A ticket refund or rerouting to their destination.

If not enough volunteers come forward and the airline denies boarding against a passenger’s will, the affected passengers are entitled to:

  • A ticket refund or rerouting, as well as financial compensation.
